It’s always great to help share news of some of the incredible homegrown musical talent we have here in the UK, and one such artist who has recently been brought to my attention is Glasgow based singer/songwriter John Rush, who released his debut album “ Beneath The Apple Tree” last year.

John’s varied musical influences include Bob Dylan, Free and The Beatles, all joining together to give his unique Americana/folk/blues sound, and as a busy gigging musician and support artist he has played some of Glasgow’s most popular venues including King Tuts, The Royal Concert Hall and Barrowlands. September 2018 saw him travelling to New York where he played a mini-tour showcasing new work which would become his aforementioned debut album . Last year was a particularly exciting one for John, not only did he release “ Beneath the Apple Tree” and sell out his first headline Glasgow show but it also saw him joining the 23 Music Management family. He ended the year with the release of the single “ Gold and Green “, accompanied by a video filmed in the iconic Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom

The momentum continued into 2020, playing to a full house at the prestigious Celtic Connections Festival in January, and “ Sister”, the second single from the album, was released a few weeks ago. Recorded in one full eight hour session, John plays every instrument himself and as you will hear it is a marked contrast to the gentle, acoustic sound of the previous one. John describes is as being “ an apologetic snarl, explaining that you will hurt, annoy, piss off most folk you come across but it’s how you manage those expectations of love that will inevitably get you through and help grow your relationships in the end “.

Before the year took its unexpected turn John was set to spread his wings a little further afield this summer with some festival shows dotted around the U.K ending with headlining an all seated show at the wonderful Saint Luke’s and the Winged Ox on Oct 14th. Fingers crossed that some of these plans will still pan out, you can keep up to date with all John’s news via his socials……
