Capitol Records Nashville’s Caylee Hammack is sharing more of her own personal story today, releasing “Small Town Hypocrite,” available here. A hauntingly stripped-down melody, Hammack’s raw vocals veer from fiery and demanding to quiet and vulnerable. Hammack co-wrote (Jared Scott) and co-produced (Mikey Reaves) the song that has already garnered attention from Billboard for the “emotional” track, declaring her “storytelling [is] at the forefront.” Led by strikingly-personal lyrics, that also hold the unique power to resonate with many, “Small Town Hypocrite” is a career song in the making. Hammack recounts how she left the guy she put her life on hold for, packed her things and drove to Nashville, even living in her car to finally follow her dreams.
“This song is one of the most personal and difficult songs I’ve ever written,” divulged Hammack. “But, I like to think that is why it strikes a chord with people, a lot of us have been in a situation where we’ve taken stock of our lives and thought ‘what in the hell am I doing? This wasn’t what I signed up for and it definitely isn’t what I dreamed about.’ Performing it can be hard sometimes because it takes me back to those feelings and that place, but I know there is strength in being vulnerable too.”
The release of “Small Town Hypocrite” follows Hammack’s debut breakout single “Family Tree,” which is at Top 30 at country radio. Hammack, who has brought her firebrand live set to opening slots for Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Trisha Yearwood, Brothers Osborne and some of country music’s biggest festivals, will return to the road in 2020 with upcoming support slots with Reba this Spring and Luke Bryan this Summer.
