Ten minutes Claydon Connor
Introduce yourself
Hi, my name is Claydon Connor and I am a singer songwriter originally from Manchester, but now residing on the Isle of Wight.
How did you get into country music?
I got into country music a few years ago after hearing Neil young and James Taylor… although they are not seen as strict country, it was those kinds of artists that turned me on to acoustic music and I was fascinated by the stories told in the songs.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as pop music with a country blanket over it…. catchy, yet soulful with an earthy production that warms it all up
What is your favourite country music song?
To Listen to (and why)
My favourite country song is probably ‘Copperline’ by James Taylor.. or ‘Harvest Moon’ by Neil Young… again not that they are out and out country songs… but they borrow from that book and have a sound that is all their own.
To Perform (and why)
I try to avoid playing country songs if I can, as I feel that people can think that you’re trying to be that artist…I’d rather take a pop song and play it in a country style.
Who would be your dream collaboration?
My dream collaboration would probably be someone like Eric Clapton or John Mayer… just because you could jam out for hours and never get bored
If we came to a Claydon Connor gig, what should we expect?
If you came to one of my gigs you would expect to hear an eclectic set, with ups and downs, highs and lows, and an hour of the truth… my music is not over complicated and muso, but would hopefully make you feel like you had connected with me in some way, whether through the performance or the songs themselves.
What’s new with you?
I have lots of exciting things on the horizon… I will be playing at this years Country2Country festival at the O2, and also the legendary Isle of Wight festival, as well as taking a trip to Nashville to play a few solo shows and connect with people out there.
