In Stores Now – Don McLean’s American Pie Bookazine

“American Pie” is one of the most recognizable songs of all time. The song is an iconic anthem by the American singer/songwriter Don McLean.  “American Pie” is the focus of a new 96-page bookazine. The special publication honors the song’s 50th anniversary with stories and photos of Don McLean through the years.

A shortened version of “American Pie” was even covered by Madonna in 2000 and reached number one in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. The song is the longest to reach number one on the Billboard charts. The song was originally released as a two-sided 7 inch single.   “American Pie” even has college courses teaching on its lyrics. Don McLean began writing the song in Cold Spring, New York and finishing it up in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. Don McLean has confirmed that the song was first performed at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One of McLean’s manuscripts of “American Pie” was auctioned by Christie’s Auction House for just over $1.2 million.

Don McLean is a Grammy Award honoree. He is also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Don McLean has also been honored with a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award. Don McLean is also one of the most revered and respected songwriters in American history. His songs have been recorded by many artists including Madonna, Garth Brooks, Josh Groban, Drake and even “Weird Al” Yankovic.  “American Pie” being “culturally and historically significant” was preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017. Don shows no signs of slowing down. In 2020 he received a new recording contract with Time-Life. He has released a new album titled Still Playin’ Favorites. Finally in 2021 “American Pie” will be featured in the Avengers’ Black Widow movie with Scarlett Johansson, as well as Tom Hanks’ new movie BIOS. This song and Don McLean truly deserve all of the accolades amassed over the past 50 years.
