Charley Crockett Announces New Album ” Music City USA” and Releases Lead Single ” I Need Your Love”

It’s a great year for Charley Crockett fans, with the Texan native announcing the release of his second album of 2021, “Music City USA” , on September 17th via Son of Davy/Thirty Tigers. The 16-track collection will incredibly be his 10th full-length album release in the last six years, and is the follow up to “10 For Slim” , his tribute album to James “ Slim” Hand which dropped earlier this year.

The new album was recorded at Soil of the South Productions in Valdosta, GA, and produced by Mark Neill who also produced Crockett’s 2020 album “Welcome To Hard Times”. The first taste of what to expect comes in the form of the lead single “I Need Your Love”, a bluesy and soulful break up song brimming with pleading lyrics in lilting 6/8 timing. I particularly love the fantastic punchy horns in the mix, which struck me on first listen and way before I heard Charley explain they were something he’d wanted to include in his music for quite a while! There is a beautifully shot accompanying video, too, directed by Bobby Cochran.

Speaking about the single, Crockett says “I like to think of my sound as ‘ Gulf and Western’, and this number here is all gulf coast music. Something you would hear out of southeast Texas recording studios or southern Louisiana. I’d been fooling’ around with this song for a while, and when we went to record it, we decided at the last minute to double the length of the chorus. I felt right then that we had something. I had wanted to bring the horns back for a couple of tunes on this album. Soul and Country R&B from the deep south is a whole lot of who I am. I hope it shows through on ‘I Need Your Love’”. It absolutely does as far as I am concerned!

Included in Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s latest “American Currents” exhibit alongside artists including Eric Church, The Chicks, Luke Combs, Mickey Guyton, Ashley McBryde and Maren Morris, Charley will also be taping his debut for prestigious US TV show Austin City Limits on July 28th . Congratulations are also in order for his recent nomination as “Emerging Act of the Year” in the 2021 Americana Music Association awards, the winners to be announced on 22nd Sept at the historic Ryman Auditorium.

He will be undertaking an extensive US tour starting this week which includes appearances at several premier festivals, details are below with even more dates set to be added.
