It was an awfully hot day in Nashville that Monday but that sure didn’t stop country music lovers from descending upon Midtown to Whiskey Jam. With a stellar lineup of artists; people traveled from near and far to attend this weeks event. This week’s lineup featured all artists represented by CAA (Creative Artists Agency).
To kick the night off Dan Smalley took the stage. A Singer/Songwriter originally from Louisiana this now Nashville native sure proved he could sing just about anything. While the crowd may not have known his music they sure reacted well to it and seemed to love the vibe that Smalley gave off in his music. We at Think Country sure cant wait to see what’s next for Dan Smalley.
Following Smalley on the lineup was Black River Entertainment’s newest artist Abby Anderson. Anderson has recently had a whirlwind of a past couple weeks to say the least. On September 8th she released he EP entitled “I’m Good” and also had her Grand Old Opry debut the same weekend. She is also currently touring with Brett Eldredge and Devin Dawson on Brett’s fall leg of “The Long Way Tour.” Anderson’s performance was very high energy. Her personality is infectious and her lyrics are relatable. What we loved most about her performance at Whiskey Jam was how dynamic of a performer she already is. From her current single on Country Radio “Make Him Wait” to her upbeat tune “Dance Away My Broken Heart” (Co-Written by Kelsea Ballerini and Thomas Rhett) the crowd loved every minute of her performance on the Whiskey Jam Stage. If you haven’t heard Abby Anderson’s name yet be prepared to hear it lots. Watch out Country Music … Abby Is coming for ya!
Next up on the Whiskey Jam stage is Broken Brow Record’s trio Runaway June. Making their Whiskey Jam debut the ladies stated they’ve “wanted to play Whiskey Jam for a while” and you could definitely tell the ladies loved every minute of their time on stage. The trio made up of Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne. The three ladies met in Nashville and wrote their debut single “Lipstick” together after being signed with Broken Bow in 2016. The Ladies also just released a brand new self titled EP this past week and they showcased several of those songs at Whiskey Jam as well. If you haven’t heard their brand new single “Buy My Own Drinks” do yourself a favor and download it NOW. The Ladies of Runaway June are three of the best voices blended together and the sound they produce together is by far one of the best groups in Nashville. Lead singer Naomi Cooke is such a performer and worked the Whiskey Jam crowd… She even had most of them singing along by the end. Dare I say these three could be the next “It” Group of Country Music… Absolutely!
The Wild Feathers were next on the CAA Takeover lineup and they sure didn’t disappoint. While The Wild Featherssound is a bit different and more of a Southern Rock vibe, the crowd sang along and enjoy hearing their amazing harmonies. Do yourself a favor and check out their songs “Stand By You” and “Big Sky” which were both featured on Sirius XM’s “The Highway” as “Highway Finds”… You’ll Thank Us Later.
After all those amazing artists we wondered how the night could get any better… And Then Came the headliner of the evening, Warner Music Nashville’s very own Michael Ray. From the minute Ray came on stage the crowd energy was at an all time high. Singing his it singles “Kiss You In The Morning” and “Think A Little Less” the crowd went wild. Ray also played several tracks from his latest release “Amos” which came out in June. Fan favorites of the night included Ray’s performance of “Fan Girl” and his currently single “One That Got Away”. Not only did Ray kill it on stage he has one of the most energetic bands in country music today. You can definitely tell that Michael and his band mates are truly friends and have been doing this together for quite sometimes. If you haven’t been to a Michael Ray show be ready for a high energy show that will leave you wanting more and more. Michael Ray joins Old Dominion on the road this Fall so make sure you don’t miss out on that tour it’s going to one big party we promise.
What an amazing night of music it was at Whiskey Jam in Nashville.
