Hi! We’re Southern Junction

We’re a new country music duo based in Dorset UK we have been a band for around a year now. We really enjoy what we do and love performing live.

How did you get into country music?

Katie: Growing up on a property in Australia, Country music was always part of my upbringing, Garth Brooks especially, I fell in love with the lyrics and story telling attached to country music and growing up was always known to be scribbling down poems or lyrics. I always wanted to sing and write songs but it took me a while to realise that country was my genre, being a teen influenced by pop and what was cool I always felt something was missing until I realised that it wasn’t about fitting in and being popular, it was about doing what you loved. Country is what I love.

Carlos: I come from a rock background, so country music is relatively new thing for me. Katie managed to win me over firstly with Keith Urban and then many more guitar based acts like Brad Paisley. I finally fully embraced the genre when I realised that I’ve been a country writer in disguise all along and what we write together really suits the genre.

How would you describe your sound?

Katie: Our sound is a blend of both of us, it wouldn’t work if we were solo artists, we rely on each other to convey our message, there’s a lot of back and forth vocally and big harmony moments that we love.

Carlos: In it’s most simplistic form it’s very melodic and harmony rich, hopefully our EP will take the music to the next level with some tasty guitar work and grooving beats.

What is your favourite country music song?

Katie: To listen to would be ‘The Change’ Garth Brooks (I swear I like other artists as well!) it’s a song that’s always stuck with me, the lyrics, the message. It’s just such a well written song that makes you feel something, makes you believe in the good in the world.

To perform, ‘Before he cheats’ Carrie Underwood. It’s just a really fun song to play live, the guys get into it on guitar and the whole song is just fun.

Carlos: To listen to I would say Lady Antebellum’s One Great Mystery or Keith Urban’s Till Summer Comes Around. I love a good ballad and Country sure never disappoints!

To perform, I love playing State Lines by the Shires, it’s quite a challenging song vocally and when it’s done perfectly it’s a real buzz!

Who would be your dream collaboration?

Katie: we’d love to co lab with Lady Antebellum I would say! All those harmonies every where would sound huge!

Carlos: /\ Agreed!

If we came to one of your gigs, what should we expect?

Katie and Carlos: Fun! We love audience interaction and performing to the listener. We try not to take ourselves to seriously and let the songs speak for themselves.

What’s new with you?

Katie and Carlos: So much is happening at the moment! we’re about to record our first e.p and have loads of awesome gigs lined up for the summer like FSA fest and buckle and boots!

Where can fans find out more about you?

We’re trying our best to keep up with all social media has to offer! And we love interacting on there 🙂

Hi, I’m Annette, I have been a huge country music fan since the early 90s those were the days we were lucky enough to have CMT in the UK. I enjoy nothing more than listening to country music whilst having a cold beer (or a moonshine) with friends. I try to as many gigs as I can here in the UK and in the USA; I think of Nashville as my second home and I am lucky to have made some amazing friends in Tennessee. Think Country is something I am very proud of, I just want to share my love and passion of all things country music related with you all.
