The Story Review

I have missed LeAnn Rimes – LeAnn is quite easily one of the most gifted singers in the entire world. When she played at C2C Festival in London 2013, she was possibly the most talked about artist that entire weekend and she wasn’t even headlining.

The last album we had from LeAnn was Spitfire – I have to say that not only is Spitfire the best album she has produced but is one of my favourite albums of all time, so I was of course excited for her new single The Story and was very curious to see if it would reach a similar standard.

The Story does not disappoint and my goodness does it show off her vocals. I love LeAnn’s raw and genuine-strong voice, it has no shred of auto tune like so many other singers have these days. LeAnn is the real- deal and quite frankly deserves so much more praise than she receives.

The Story is a very strong ballad that starts off acapella before a piano slowly kicks in. It is very much the style we are used to hearing from LeAnn – which is nice and great to hear that she has stuck to her roots and not felt pressured to take a more pop direction. I have heard some critics say that this song is a bit “too old” for her but are they all forgetting how young she was when she sang Blue? That song seemed too old for her too but her voice has always carried a mature sound that set her apart from any other modern country singer. It is singers like LeAnn and Martina McBride that we need to be hearing a lot more of. Not many singers can get away with singing songs like The Story vocally, so when you have a singer who can sing the heck out of something, I guess people look to criticise the song rather than the voice.

You can clearly tell that The story comes from a very personal, passionate and vulnerable place – it shows in the lyrics and in the way LeAnn sings it. It is such a moving song and I really love the melody throughout the song. The songs gets more and more powerful as it plays both vocally and musically giving it that WOW! Factor.

Having just signed with a new label in the UK (RCA Label Group UK) and supporting Sir Elton John at BBC Radio 2’s Festival In A Day in September – lets just hope that LeAnn makes the UK her home away from home. We love her here, I think we proved that when we all gave her a standing ovation during her performance at C2C Festival and you know why? Because she is a phenomenal singer whose voice is all that is needed to give an outstanding performance and because we, the UK, care about the music and the voice.

I hope LeAnn adds more tour dates in the UK this September as Festival In A Day is sold out before I could get a ticket, arrrghh but for all you going, please go and support LeAnn and tell me all about it afterwards.

Hi, I’m Annette, I have been a huge country music fan since the early 90s those were the days we were lucky enough to have CMT in the UK. I enjoy nothing more than listening to country music whilst having a cold beer (or a moonshine) with friends. I try to as many gigs as I can here in the UK and in the USA; I think of Nashville as my second home and I am lucky to have made some amazing friends in Tennessee. Think Country is something I am very proud of, I just want to share my love and passion of all things country music related with you all.
