49th Annual CMA Awards – Winners List + Recap
It was country music’s night of the year last night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, and the stars of the genre were out in force on the red carpet. With plenty of bright colours as well as all-black suits, the women were decked out in feminine accents such as lace and sparkles, and many of them opted for low-cut.
Fast forward to the show itself, and collaborations were the order of the night, with Hank Williams Jr partnering with Eric Church, Keith Urban joining with John Mellencamp, Thomas Rhett rocking out with Fall Out Boy, Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake wooing the crowd. Their duet has been hailed as one of the best collaborations ever on an awards show.
Finally Reba and Brooks & Dunn giving us a throwback to the 90s. Solo performances were a big deal too, with highlights coming from Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley, while Eric Church performed the title track from his surprise new album ‘Mr. Misunderstood’.
And Chris Stapleton was the surprise winner of the night, picking up three trophies for Male Vocalist, Album (‘Traveller’) and New Artist of the Year.
Little Big Town also won two, for Vocal Group and Single (‘Girl Crush’), while songwriters Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose were honoured for LBT’s monster hit in Song of the Year. You can check out the full list of winners below.
